My name is Fr. Peter Kyi Maung and I am from Myanmar, which used to be known in the UK as Burma. I was ordained as a priest on October 20, 2010 and was immediately assigned as an assistant priest at a minor seminary.
From 2014 – 2017 I was sent for further studies in the Philippines. After that I was asked by the bishop to work at Radio Veritas Asia (RVA) in the Philippines, and worked there from June 2018 to December 2021 as an editorial board member. By the end of 2021 I was invited by Fr. Dermott Donnelly to serve in the diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. I arrived here in UK in the first week of May 2022 and served as an assistant to Fr. Dermott in his three parishes. After the sudden death of Fr. Dermott, his close friend Fr. Marc Lyden-Smith invited me to serve in his parishes. Following Fr Peter Stoddart’s assignment to the royal navy, In January 2023 I was appointed as Parochial Administrator of the parishes of Our Lady of Lourdes in Shotton and here at St. Joseph’s in Murton. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I hope to serve you well here in Murton and Shotton.
“ Here I am, O Lord, I come to do your will.”
